Safe Patient Handling

HB 2285, an amendment to The Mental Health and Developmental Disabilities Administrative Act, has passed in Illinois, which becomes effective January 1, 2010. This amendment requires manual lifting of inpatients to be eliminated to the maximum extent possible. Equipment that supports most or all of a patient’s weight must be used.
