Our Story
When founder Jim Orrico’s grandmother got ill, she had trouble moving her arms and legs and relied on full-time help from a caregiver. When the caregiver experienced lower-back pain as a result of unsupported manual transfers from wheelchair to couch and bed, Jim’s family rented a sling lift. The lift was too big for Jim’s grandmother’s small condominium, making it very difficult to maneuver.
Jim, an experienced product development engineer, was inspired to develop a new transfer option, not only to help his family, but to address the large rate of lower-back injuries common in the nursing profession. Jim started AME with his co-inventor Mario and assembled a team of people equally passionate about improving the ease of care for our elderly and disabled.
